Kid Makes Millions of Dollars off of Boston Snow Storms
--Boston, MA,
Robert McMartin, unlike hundreds of thousands of Bostonians, did not panic when record-breaking snowstorms hit Boston for the third time in three weeks.
"I was very excited because it means that I can miss school and build snowmen," he reminisced. "When I saw that the trains were broken, I had an idea."
Robert McMartin is no engineer, but he realized that he could do something about the MBTA's failure to transport its customers through the snow. He noticed that many of the commuters suffered in the frigid temperatures while waiting in long lines for the shuttle buses to pick them up. "I made igloos near the T stops."
The letter "T" stands for "Transit" and it refers to all MBTA modes of transportation including trains, buses, boats, and rickshaws.
Robert was asked how much money he made from each igloo he made. "People started paying me one hundred dollars an hour for each igloo." This didn't explain how the 8-year old became a millionaire until Robert elaborated. "People then bidded against each other, so I had to evict the ones inside if they lost the bidding. I didn't even know about the word 'evict' until today. A lot of people paid big bucks to me. I paid bouncers to help me with the evictions."
